Last Saturday, we were deciding whether to go to Greenwich, Canary wharf or Walthamstow as we have direct buses from our area. Eventually we decided on Walthamstow because J mentioned that there is a street market with over 400 stores. Worth taking a look..
Shopping mall at Walthamstow
The Walthamstow market that stretch a loooong way down the street
Most of the stores were selling fruits, meat, clothings, accessories, toiletries etc. There are also a few asian supermarket along the way.
J's favorite 99p store can be found here too! In fact, there were quite a few stores like this around London. Very much like sg's daiso
Happily posing with his spring onion and ginger that he just bought. Guess what is he going to cook?
Too bad they didn't screen the Man U and Liverpool match on the big screen. Liverpool Won 4-1 WooHOoo!
Think J is ready to cook up a storm!
So, here are some of the dishes that we made. I know, they don’t exactly look that presentable but hey its our first time cooking proper meals and we are proud that it turns out edible. I think cooking is becoming J’s hobby.
Stir-fry baby corn, snap pea and shrimps
The rice tastes almost like the authentic ones..the only pity is we didn't manage to find any chicken rice chili from the asian stores. Its never the same without the chili 🙁
Chicken gorjons, fish fillet and homemade chips! I miss the homemade chips at fisherman's wharf in sg 🙁
J's jiang cong ji rou fan (ginger and spring onion chicken) His favorite n first time cooking it. I swear, its just as good as the zi cha store! Maybe better because he added alot of chicken fillet. Really damn nice.
I tried to make ju yoke zin dan. So many nice dishes she made during gathering like cny, ndp etc I still remember when i was very young, the red packet of ming xing mian that she cook somewhat tasted different and she used to fried gou lou yoke and everyone will try to pinch some of it before they are seated at the table. It is weird that i'm not there but i hope popo and mum are in a happy place.
There are many chicken fastfood store in london with names like 'Dixy Chicken', 'Perfect Fried Chicken', 'Best Fried Chicken' etc There are close to 10 stores on our way home! Can you imagine the aroma whenever we walk back home? Smells like KFC everytime!
Times where J surrenders to the temptation
Enough room for some desserts? Yes, we are fat people
Love, Yee
