A day before our Bath trip, we receive news of severe weather warning of strong gales and floods in Bath and the Southwest region. The weather forecast for Bath in the next 4 days that we were planning to go were rain…rain…rain & rain.. Bad news for us..but well weather is temperamental..you never know..we’re gonna brave it~!
We booked a full day tour to Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock and Castle Combe with Mad Max Tour
All set to go~ with our guide, Charles, in the front seat
We were one of the first few tour buses to arrive early. We pretty much have the whole view to ourselves. Notice the big black clouds?
Well, at least it hasn’t started raining and the dark clouds gives a intriguing and mysterious character to Stonehenge
Just us with stormy clouds above our heads and Stonehenge
The wind is very very strong (see video)...notice J's hair? Took us several attempts to take a good pic without J's hair covering his face
Are you drawn into this pic?
Tourist crowd starts coming
Looks like a grumpy face to you?
Do you see a faint rainbow?
We were very lucky because it only started to rain when we were leaving. The poor tourist crowd had to brave the pouring rain
Charles stopped along the way to show us this white chalk horse carving up the hill
Isn't this cottage beautiful? Its rather expensive to have a well-maintained thatched roof. Therefore, you can tell if a family is well-to-do by looking at their roof.
We were recommended by our guide to have our lunch at this award winning historic pub. This building has been around since 1365 and you can still find some of its medieval features. There is even a dog wheel in the pub where in the olden days turnspit dogs are bred to run on treadmill to turn meat.
Village of Lacock is the film set of Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter etc... Our Guide mentioned that each resident in Lacock were paid 200 GBP for inconvenience caused during the filming of Harry Potter
little red umbrella
St Cyriac's Church of England
Harry Potter's House
Next, we head to Castle Combe, which is the filming set of the movie Stardust
This is the scene where Tristan threw a pebble at Victoria's window
Castle Combe is our last stop before we head back to Bath. All in all, we were very lucky as most of the time it is raining when we are in the comfort of our bus. The rain stopped almost every time when we reach a destination, except for Lacock where we had to use our brollies.
Bath Abbey
Jane Austen Centre
The royal crescent
The Roman Baths
The Pump Room
The thermal water taste like blood....eeks
Wagamama is very popular here but i am abit disappointed...nothing fantastic.. I think it is because we are spoilt for choice in Sg and the food is more authenic.
Katsu Curry Rice
The last day of our trip is for pure relaxation…starting with breakfast and morning tea at Sally Lunn
J had the bun with butter, tiptree jam & local clotted cream whereas for me, i had it with homemade cinnamon butter
After a bit of rest, we move on to what both of us have been looking forward to the entire trip..Bath Thermae Spa! Our train tickets allowed us to each have additional 2 hours of Spa which total up to 4 hrs of Spa each!..hehe.. I am impressed by the futuristic interior of the aromatic steam room and it is our first experience wearing nothing but our swimwear in freeezing autumn weather but thankfully, the distance between the lift and rooftop pool is just inches away, meaning when the lift door opens, you can almost jump straight into the warm thermal pool. From the rooftop pool, you can enjoy the beautiful views of Bath. We didn’t stay in the rooftop pool for too long as it was freezing from our neck up so we rather stay lazing around in the indoor warmth of the mineral bath instead.
We were not allowed to take photos but here is a video i found.
After 4 hrs of Xi bai bai... SHIOK!
