Railing thru Europe: Stop 2.2 Spain – Barcelona

Barcelona, a city hosting some of the world’s  most famous and unique architecture is just about 2-3 hours away by train from Madrid; even though it takes a longer traveling time, we chose to take the night train instead so that we can spend a little more time in Madrid and also to save on accommodation. We would also be able to reach Barcelona early in the morning and gain an extra few hours for sightseeing.

Finally reach Barcelona Sants Station in the morning after being on the train for 8 hours!

Palau de la Musica Catalana

Barcelona Cathedral - undergoing some reconstruction work

Interior of the Cathedral

well equipped kitchen of our hostel to cook lunch! Cabonara anyone?

Monument a Casanova

Barcelona's Arc de Triomf

Museu de la Xocolata

You can just rent a Vespa if you got a license and just ride around Barcelona with ease!

This building is actually the exterior of a fresh market

Placa de Catalunya

One of Gaudi’s famed works – Casa Batllo

Casa Amatller

Another one of Gaudi’s Masterpiece – Casa Mila ( Le Pedrera)

The famed street of La Rambla

you’ll find many street performers here on La Rambla

Good old Carrefour, great place to stock up on cheap groceries!

Gotta hand it to this guy… no idea how he can manage to stay ‘floating’ on just a stick

Palau Gaudi

Mirador de Colom, a monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus

Placa Real

The next day, we decided since we went to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid wouldn’t it be weird if we gave the Camp Nou a miss??

Yeah baby! finally got my hands on the stadium and museum tour tickets!

Players shower room with jacuzzi!

The players even have a small chapel to say their prayers before heading to the pitch

In english it basically means 'more than a club'

Drinking Shangria while watching the world cup!

Mr and Mrs Smith?!?

The next day after checking out from our hostel, we moved to a self contained apartment near Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell.

Hospital de Sant Pau

Front the courtyard of Hospital Sant Pau we could see the vague outline of the Sagrada Familia

Grabbed a cola flavoured ice popsicle n the way to Parc Guell... haven't had that in ages!

Gaudi's house

Yee could'nt resist taking a picture of this cat sleeping on the side of the road... haha!

Finally we are in sight of Barcelona's landmark icon!

After strolling the beach, we went back to our usual hangout place to have dinner and watch the World Cup

That’s it for Spain, the next stop would be South of France, Montpellier!
