Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion 1-0 (29/08/2010)

About a week ago, to our surprise, we actually managed to get tickets for the West Bromwich match online. Therefore, instead of watching our first football match at Old Trafford, it’s now going to be at Anfield! haha …

We finally have the chance to experience the much hyped about Anfield atmosphere and we reckon that it’s going to be a trashing match so after enduring a 6hrs plus night coach ride, we finally arrive at Liverpool on matchday at 6.15am on a freezing morning.

reminded us of those pin collectors we saw

Finally got my hands on the tickets

This time we will be entering the gates of Anfield!

The bottle cap from J's drink was removed by the stewards before entering the stadium. This is done for fear that fans would throw bottle caps at the players

We went in an hour earlier so the stadium is still quite empty

The classic moment where everyone holds up their scarf and sang “You’ll never walk alone”

The pitch seems so much smaller when we are seating behind the goal post. But nonetheless, this is the very pitch where football fanatics are watching live telecasts around the world. The only thing that i never notice in the past while watching on television, is the frequency of fans getting up from their seats. Due to the section where we are situated, whenever the ball comes near to the goal post, everyone would stand up to get a glimpse of that nerve-wreaking moment, before seating down when the chance is missed. We spent the first half getting up and down from our seats. I find it rather interesting and involving to watch the match this way as compare to couching at home and watching from TV.

Despite the disappointing first half, i was truly entertained by the remarks made by the supporters during the match. I shouldn’t be laughing but one guy was especially funny when he blurted out his discontent, “I’ts f**king West Bromwich! not Man United!” He carried on watching the match with disbelief at Liverpool’s inability to score and mumbled every now and then, “it’s f**king West Bromwich……” I fully understood his frustrations. On the other hand, i overheard someone beside commenting “so this is how we compared to Chelsea…they score 6-0 against West Bromwich..” and…the previous discontented guy started singing his spiritless Torres chant like a broken recorder.

while everyone is giving their full concentration to the match, J is busy munching on Haribo *faint* 0_0""

65 minute - Torres finally scores..and the crowd celebrates! J was too anxious and fumbled with the video recording...didn't captured the goal 0_0""

86 minute – Bad foul by James Morrison and was sent off!

Final whistle is blown and the score is 1-0 before crowds evacuate from the stadium

The match ended with several wasteful attempts made by the Reds.

After the match, we went to the place where players would come out from and there were already fans taking up all the good spots. Torres and Gerrard went straight into their vehicle but we managed to get some autographs.

Autographs from Jay Spearing, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger, Ryan Babel and Brad Jones

J called out to Babel and said "Babel! your photo..your photo!" (waving the programme booklet) and Babel did smack his signature on the front cover. Nice one!

After thoughts: The score was a little disappointing but at least they won. Liverpool needs some time to recover and for new players to gel after all the turmoils that Rafa have caused and the lost of some great players. Even the Anfield crowd seems disenchanted and frustrated. I feel i have yet experience the Anfield magic. I guess it’s different when you watch smaller matches. I still remembered the roars from supporters were so loud even from outside the Anfield stadium during the derby match with Man united the last time we were here.

Enough of football for now, looking forward to the next match at Upton Park, Yee
