Railing thru Europe: Stop 11.2 Norway – Breathtaking Train Ride to Bergen

We woke up early for the 0811hrs train and were a little sleepy at first but as the landscape changed so did our mood. From 1000hrs till the moment we reached Bergen our faces were glued to the window panes, taking in all the fjords and mountains the scenic journey has to offer, pausing only to grab lunch or for that toilet break. Although we were a little upset for being too engrossed with the scenic view that we failed to capture some of the best scenes on video, (they looked like heavily photoshopped desktop wallpaper of landscapes that seems so unreal) we reasoned with ourselves that no pictures or videos would do justice to the scenic ride and it has to be experienced by one’s self  and not thru the camera lens to fully appreciate the beauty of it.

I would certainly rank this as the best, if not one of the best train rides we have experienced.

For the first time, we felt great to have a eurail as it allows us to sit comfortably in first class sipping hot tea while watching the beautiful scenery outside without “add ons” like reservation fees.

If you are travelling from Oslo to Bergen, i suggest you sit on the left facing the front as that was where we sat and we noticed people sitting on the right coming over to our side to take pictures or videos. Although i’ve mentioned this before, i would like to stress again that no pictures nor videos will be able to truly capture the beauty of this scenic ride unless you experience it yourself. Although some people say the scenic ride in summer is glorious but some locals dispute that it is even more spectacular to travel in winter. If we have the chance we would definitely make a trip back next time to witness the ride in winter.

If in life you get only 1 chance to take a train ride, make this THE ride because this is definately one of the best travelling experience so far due to the spectacular scenery and the comfort of the train. Next up, the 2nd largest city of Norway, Bergen.
