Railing thru Europe: Stop 12.2 Germany – Frankfurt

Another overnight train journey takes us to Frankfurt in the wee hours of the morning. Although the hostel which we booked says reception is 24 hours, when we arrived we were faced with a snoring receptionist. It was a funny sight as other backpackers who had just woken up were busy getting their breakfast while the rhythm of the snoring accompanied them. As hilarious as it was, we had to rouse the receptionist from dreamland so we could leave our baggage with him and make our day trip to Mainz (for the river cruise along the Rhine river towards Koblenz which might I add, will be featured on our next post).
Back from the Rhine, we had a little walk around the main tourist area of the city of Frankfurt before returning to the hostel and calling it a day.
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof
The Commerzbank Tower from a distance. It is one of the tallest building in the European Union

The Seufzerbrücke (bridge of sighs) was named by the citizens of Frankfurt with reference to the one in Venice as they used to pay their taxes here
Paulskirche (St. Paul's church)
Alte nikolaikirche (old St. Nicholas Church) at the Römerberg (city hall square)
Snapping a picture with the famous eastern façade of the Römer
Dom Sankt Bartholomäus (Saint Bartholomeus's Cathedral) or simply known as the Frankfurt Cathedral
A Maggie store!
Katharinenkirche (St. Catherine's Church) is dedicated to the Christian saint, Catherine of Alexandria
The Hauptwache building is a former guard-house but is now a Cafe
Eschenheimer Turm (Eschenheim Tower)
The Eurotower, headquarters of the European Central Bank
Next, we’ll be heading to Mainz, cruising on the Rhine river to Koblenz!
