2 things would come to mind when you talk about Munich (München), capital of Bavaria (Bayern). 1) Football (FC Bayern Munich and the Allianz Arena) and 2) Tales of large beer halls! Not surprisingly, these 2 go hand in hand as most people watching a game of football would have their choice of beverage a big cool glass of…you guessed it…Beer!

In our Lonely Planet guide, we had read about the ‘Romantic Road’ of Germany, a route that highlights walled towns and picturesque villages in western Bavaria from Würzburg to Füssen.
